Dressing Up: Medieval Foibles!

Every year in the dead of winter, my school hosts a medieval banquet in honor of our patron, Sir Thomas More. We get to dress up in medieval finery, eat with our fingers (seriously, there's no cutlery), and sing rowdy pub songs in the cafeteria. It's great.

You have to wait at the door and be announced in grand style by amusing pseudonym. Your picture is also taken, hence the oddity you see before you. I got to wear my favoritest costume ever, and my escort was wearing the Sith robes I custom-made for him last summer. Might I add that those robes are incredibly versatile? He's been able to dress up like a Plague Doctor, a Sith Lord, a religious of some kind... the possibilities are endless.

I love dressing up!

Vintage Dream

So, I'm wondering if y'all remember my "sneak peek" post awhile back about this beautiful vintage dress, circa 1950. Well, if you forgot, that's perfectly alright- it's almost been a year. I promised pictures sooner, but the only reason I didn't post them sooner was because I didn't wear the dress when I thought I would. I saved it for bigger and better things than a contra dance (although contra dances are the knees of the bees).

I saved it for my school's Spring Formal, which is traditionally hosted by the freshmen for the graduating seniors as a farewell gift. This year, it was a masquerade ball! Loads of fun! So, my dress was at home amongst the masks, twinkle lights, and jazzy music.

As usual, the only pictures I seem to have are of the back... none of the full front.

But there is this one, which I'm rather partial to.

And no, I'm not selling this dress. It's mine, and it's mine forever.

....until, that is, I have daughters that have dances to attend.

Vintage-ing

Oh, the glories of antique stores that cannot be resisted!

Are you ready for some vintage action? I've have a lot of vintage and antique goodies that have been building up over the years, and I think it's finally time to share my bounty. You know, there's only so many beautiful vintage gloves I can wear! Besides, if someone else can use and love these darlings, than all the better!

Over the next couple of weeks, I'll be listing retro dresses, Edwardian slips, books, gloves, jewelry, baby clothes, linen sheets... it'll be a veritable antique store over at Willow's Works
